How to Take Care of Dry Hair

Dry hair can look extremely unmanageable and frizzy, making it look messy always. It’s a common issue and people with dry hair face many issues. How does one take care of it? Because extreme conditions in dry hair can also lead to baldness. And nobody wants to reach that stage. Lets take a look at some tips that can ensure dry hair is in proper shape.

Handle with care
Dry hair can be fragile; it needs to be handled with care. It’s mostly brittle and weak and vulnerable to break. Post washing if rubbed vigorously then the roots can get weakened causing hair break. While shampooing your hair use the tips of your fingers gently into scalp. Do not scrub; wash your hair with cold water since hot water can damage the hair texture.

Shampoo less often
Avoid excessive shampooing than once or twice a week as it dries the hair. It damages the natural oils present in the hair and dry it further. Less shampooing will help in getting those oils back in the hair. If the hair roots look too oily due to the sudden change in the rate of shampooing then just use a bit of dry shampoo on the oily roots.

Air dry your hair
Banish the hair dryer as it damages the roots of dry hair. Let the hair dry naturally on its own. The heat from hair dryers can cause further damage like breakage and split ends. But give the hair some time if using hair dryer regularly. If you want to use a hair dryer then keep the cool setting on dryer and maintain a safe distance of some inches between the hair and dryer.

Comb your hair often
While many people love to comb hair regularly, it won’t do much damage to people with normal hair but strictly a no for people with dry hair. Since dry hair is usually dry and brittle, it can break easily. The hair brush can make hair look rough and frizzy. Use a wide toothed comb when the hair is wet, this will help you separate tangles and knots and keep the hair in good condition. Work from the top of the hair to separate knots and get down to the roots. Avoid excess brushing as it can break more hair strands. Using fingers before brushing to break tangles can help. This will avoid the comb from sticking and help in going smoothly. With time you can switch to a fine combed hair from a wide toothed comb.

These mentioned tips are handy to maintain dry hair. If these steps are ignored then excess dry hair can lead to baldness, so taking care at a basic level can always be a savior. Along with these tips eat a protein rich diet to get healthy tresses and avoid stress by regular exercising which will also help in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
